BEOMHAN has officially made his independent debut on 31 January 2024, his 23rd birthday! Just last year, BEOMHAN was training to be a K-Pop idol before making the tough decision to take the independent route. BEOMHAN’s created a following solely on the efforts he made to connect with his fans. As a previous trainee, he’s had the largest fanbase the K-Pop community has seen before he even debuted. With this much support, there was ample anticipation for BEOMHAN’s debut.
Who Is BEOMHAN?
BEOMHAN’s birth name is Harold Wu, and he is Chinese-American. He was born on 31 January 2001 in New York, USA. After being born, he spent the first 3 years of his life in China before moving back to New York. BEOMHAN is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, and he is learning Korean.
BEOMHAN would usually go live every Saturday on Instagram; every Wednesday on TikTok; every Monday and Friday on Twitch; and he would also go live on Twitch on Wednesdays after his TikTok lives. When he was still a trainee, BEOMHAN had many fan meets that his fans would post online. The videos of where his personality shined through created lots of traction for his increasing fanbase.
Trainee Days
BEOMHAN’s previous company is FM Entertainment. Through FM, BEOMHAN released pre-debut singles with other trainees. He released “Sun’s Up” and “Ashes” with Roda of M.O.N.T in 2021 and “THE AWAKENING” featuring Jay Chang, a soloist under FM Entertainment and member of ONE PACT under Armada Entertainment. BEOMHAN was training to debut with the group, M.O.N.T before he decided to part ways with the company.
Due to mistreatment and an overall lack of support, BEOMHAN made his departure from FM Entertainment. The company released a statement on the matter, claiming that “Trainee Beomhan has distorted the truth on numerous occasions and spread misleading information during live broadcasts.”
Through his livestreams, BEOMHAN is very transparent with his fans. This is how he’s grown such a strong bond with his fanbase.
The Birthday Debut, “Me, Myself, & I”
On 31 January 2024, BEOMHAN made his long awaited debut. BEOMHAN released the single track “Me, Myself, & I” with a performance-based music video. Seeing as he is independent, he had to cultivate his resources himself. He attended dance classes and hired his own choreographer. It is unclear whether BEOMHAN produced the track himself or hired someone else to produce it for him.
The fact that BEOMHAN finally debuted is a cause for celebration and even more so, due to his birthday. However, the production of “Me, Myself, & I” raised mixed reactions. This has resulted in BEOMHAN posting a lighthearted statement on Instagram: “I would liek [sic] to unannounce my debut.”
After taking some time to sit and reflect on the reactions he’s received, BEOMHAN decided to host a contest for a remake of his debut single. Fans that are loyal to BEOMHAN see the dedication he’s put into debuting, and they also see the potential for the single and for future releases to come.
